  • On December 16th, 2008 New City America, working with the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau, successfully formed its 53rd Business Improvement District, the largest BID in the history of North America. The 27 million dollar Tourism Improvement District will provide 18 million dollars in funding for marketing and promotional programs and 9 million dollars per year, matched by the City, to upgrade and expand the Moscone Convention Center. The new TID was support by 95% of the voting hotels and was approved unanimously by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.


  • On December 16th, 2008 New City America successfully formed its 52nd Community Benefit Improvement District, this time in the Willow Glen business district of San Jose California. This is the first of what is anticipated to be many CBIDs in San Jose, the third largest City in California and the capital of the Silicon Valley.


  • " On October 21st, New City America East, a collaboration between New City America, Inc. and Taggart and Associates, commenced its first contract in the City of Bethlehem, Penn. NCA East has been hired by the Lehigh Valley Chamber Foundation to investigate the creation of one, and perhaps two Community Benefit Districts in Bethlehem. This new contract begins a new phase of growth by New City America into the Eastern Seaboard with special emphasis on gaining contracts in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Maryland.

  • On October 1st, Marco Li Mandri headed a panel at the Annual California Downtown Association Conference in Santa Rosa California, to discuss the growth of Community Benefit Districts in the country. Panelists included San Francisco Port Commissioner Rodney Fong (also of the Fisherman's Wharf CBD), Karin Ecklund of the Union Square BID and Debra Nieman of the Noe Valley CBD.

  • On August 8th, New City America successfully established its 51st BID/Community Benefit District, this time in the Downtown Los Angeles Historic Core area. This effort was a renewal of the district established in 2003, also by New City America. This effort created a new, more dynamic assessment methodology to accommodate the thousands of new residents to Downtown LA. The district was approved by over 80% of the property owners voting in the district renewal effort.

  • On July 29th 2008, New City America successfully established its 50th BID/Community Benefit District, this time in the Yerba Buena Neighborhood of the City of San Francisco. With the adoption of this new CBD, the largest CBD to date, generating 2.4 million per year, has been created in the City of San Francisco. This CBD is the 8th district formed by New City America, since 2005, in the City of San Francisco. With this district established, New City America has formed 18 districts alone in the Bay Area, and is under contract to establish at least six more districts in the coming year.

  • On July 29th 2008, New City America successfully established its 49th BID/Community Benefit District, as a renewal and expansion district for the Chinatown BID in the City of Los Angeles. By almost a 2/3 margin, the property owners in the existing and expansion area voted to create a new, larger Chinatown BID. The LA Chinatown remains the only Chinese American BID in the country. New City America has established 14 of the 33 BIDs/CBDs in the City of Los Angeles, more than any other consultant group.

  • On July 29th 2008, New City America successfully established its 48th BID/Community Benefit District, this time in the historic commercial district of Lincoln Heights in Los Angeles. Property owners voted by a margin of almost two to one to establish this new special benefit district. Through the adoption of this district, New City America has established 14 of the 33 BIDs/CBDs in the City of Los Angeles, more than any other consultant group.

  • On July 15th, 2008, New City America successfully established its 47th BID/Community Benefit District, this time in Downtown Oakland California. Downtown Oakland is a classic example of a City Center on the brink of revival. Property owners voted by a weighted margin of 77% to support district formation. This is the 9th district formed by New City America, in the City of Oakland. New City America has established every BID and CBD in Oakland since 1999.

  • On July 15th, 2008, New City America successfully established its 46th BID/Community Benefit District, this time in the Lake Merritt/Uptown District of Oakland California. Lake Merritt is a tremendously beautiful area that has tremendous underutilized assets. The property owners voted by a weighted margin of 85% to support district formation. This is the 8th district New City America has formed in the City of Oakland;

  • New City America has been awarded a contract to investigate and possibly establish a Business Improvement District in Downtown Tracy, in California.

  • New City America has been awarded a contract to investigation and establish a new Community Benefit Improvement District in the West San Carlos district of the City of San Jose, California.

  • New City America has been awarded a contract to investigate and form a new Community Benefit District for Downtown San Francisco. As a joint effort being promoted by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce and BOMA/San Francisco, New City America was awarded the contract after review of other top consulting firms in the field. The Downtown San Francisco CBD will be the largest of all of the CBDs in the City and will take this great Downtown area to the next level as a wonderful place in which to work, visit, conduct business as well as live.

  • New City America has been awarded a contract to begin preliminary steps in the investigation of a new Los Angeles Garment District Business Improvement District. The Garment District property owners, formerly part of the Downtown Fashion District BID, will determine their strategy and time line for BID formation by the end of August.

  • New City America President Marco Li Mandri was the featured speaker at the Annual Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce dinner held on May 15th at the historic Bethlehem Hotel in Downtown Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Before a crowd of over 250 guests, Li Mandri spoke about how business districts from Little Italy in San Diego to Downtown Bethlehem are, and could be reinvented with community leadership and new Community Benefit Districts.

  • New City America has been awarded a contract by the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau to investigate and establish a new San Francisco "Tourism Investment District". This new "TID" would create a new type of assessment district, paid for by visitors to the City, which would fund the operations and promotional work of the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau. Once this model has been established, in which many sectors of the visitors industry will benefit, this model may be used nationwide in other major cities including New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC and Los Angeles.

  • New City America Principal Laura Li Mandri wrote a proposal to designate San Diego's Little Italy as a new "Preserve America" community. The "Preserve America" designation is an initiative by First Lady Laura Bush and allows designated communities to become pre-qualified for a series of Federal Grants. Laura Li Mandri's grant application was approved by the Federal Interior Department and Little Italy was given this status - the first community so designated in Southern California.

  • New City America has been awarded a contract to form the Willow Glen Community Benefit District in San Jose California. San Jose is the 10th largest city in the US today and Willow Glen is one of its premier business districts. Marco Li Mandri, President of New City America is working closely with Mayor Chuck Reed's staff and Councilman Pierluigi Oliviero in crafting a new program for multiple Community Benefit Districts in the City;

  • New City America had its 45th Community Benefit District/Business Improvement District adopted in the South Park Community of Downtown Los Angeles. By a margin of almost 9 to 1, South Park property owners, including the AEG who operates the Staples Center, the LA Convention Center, the Nokia Center and LA Live, along with hundreds of other residents, hotels and medical facilities, voted to approve this new CBD on August 15th, 2007. This is the first of many new CBDs in the City of Los Angeles and NCA was honored to have established the first one of these higher forms of assessment districts.
  • New City America has been awarded a contract to advise the Wheatridge 2020 Group on neighborhood revitalization strategies. Wheatridge is a city just outside of Denver Colorado.

  • New City America has entered into a business alliance with Donna and Glenn Taggart of Taggart and Associates establishing New City America East. NCA East is based in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and seeks to establish Community Benefit Districts, Business Improvement Districts and Neighborhood Improvement Districts throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland.
