  • New City America has been awarded a contract, funded by Shea Communities, to investigate and form a new Community Benefit District/Maintenance Assessment District in the historic Barrio Logan area just outside of Downtown San Diego. The Barrio Logan district is the historic Mexican American neighborhood, matching San Diego’s Little Italy in terms of ties to the fishing industry and historic ethnic foundations;


  • New City America has been awarded a contract to work closely with the Downtown San Diego Partnership in advising them on the operations and performance of their Business Improvement District. Marco Li Mandri and his staff will work very closely with CEO Kris Michel and her staff as she seeks to improve the responsiveness and performance of the PBID which covers nearly 85% of Downtown San Diego;


  • New City America formed its 61st Business Improvement District on May 3rd, this time in the North Shattuck area of Berkeley California. Long known as the “Gourmet Ghetto” and home of the California Cuisine, property owners by an overwhelming margin, voted to renew this BID established originally in 2000. The North Shattuck BID was the first 10 year district established in Berkeley and has now been renewed for another 10 years;


  • New City America formed its 60th Business Improvement District in mid April, this time in the Historic Lincoln Heights Industrial Zone district of Los Angeles. The district, renewed for another ten years, was approved by a weighted margin of over 80% of the voting property owners. The Industrial Zone is one of the first industrial zone built in old Los Angeles, dating back to the late 19th century.


  • New City America was awarded a contract to renew the North Franklin BID, in Sacramento CA. NCA was selected after a competitive bidding process and represents NCA’s first contract in the state capital;


  • Marco Li Mandri of New City America was interviewed for “CNN Money” for a nationwide broadcast on district management corporations and how the Little Italy Association is faring with the economic stresses in the US economy and the impending termination of Redevelopment in California;


  • New City America was awarded a contract to oversee and advise the Koreatown Community Benefit District in Oakland California. Part of the one year contract will entail advising the Board on budget priorities, realigning services providers, ensuring that the district is consistent with its management plan and creating a functional Committee Structure;


  • Marco Li Mandri spoke to the Annual conference of Italian American Media leaders at the Italian Consulate’s home in San Francisco California. The Annual event was hosted by the National Italian American Federation and featured West Coast NIAF Director Jeff Cappacio. Marco was identified as “Mr. Little Italy” in a nationwide press release out of Washington DC’s NIAF central office.


  • Marco Li Mandri was featured on FOX in the Bay Area discussing “Ethnic Business Districts” and the rebuilding of our urban neighborhoods. Fox reporter Roland De Walken interviewed Marco on the streets of Koreatown in Oakland and mentioned the new growth of the Korean business community through this key section of Oakland;


  • New City America has been awarded a contract to investigate the expansion of, and renew the South Park Business Improvement District in Los Angeles, CA. South Park included LA Live, perhaps the most dynamic development in the state of California in the past 5 years;


  • New City America formed its 59th district on October 12th, 2010, this time a new Tourism Improvement District in Garden Grove California. This was the second phase of at joint city TID that was established with the Anaheim Visitors and Convention Bureau, under the leadership of CEO Charles Ahlers. The Garden Grove and Anaheim TIDs will give a combined revenue base of almost $11 million dollars to fund the operations and programs of the Orange County/Anaheim Visitors and Convention Bureau.


  • New City America formed its 58th district on September 14th, this time a new Tourism Improvement District (TID) in the City of Anaheim, California. Under contract from Charles Ahlers, CEO of the Anaheim Visitors and Convention Bureau, Marco Li Mandri worked for two years with the major hotel owners, including the Disney company to forge a new enabling ordinance and TID. This TID will generate up to 9 million dollars per year and will allow City funding to be dedicated to expansion of the Class A Anaheim Convention Center. This is the second TID formed by New City America which hotel owners have voted to assess themselves over 9 million dollars per year to fund their marketing and promotional programs;
